Times flies when you’re having fun!

Times flies when you’re having fun! And fun is what we have been having at the ’09 fall NSO sessions!

I cannot believe that it’s been almost 5 weeks since I updated this blog. We have already completed orientation sessions #1, #2 & #3, and we are preparing for the last two major sessions for the fall semester.

I have been excited to see the new students coming in for orientation to get prepared to start classes in just a month! During orientation, new students have met their future classmates and friends, visited the campus housing that will soon become their home, and probably even memorized their student ID number so they can shout it out at moments notice to make sure they have every piece of information ready to start classes on Monday, August 31. If there is anything I can do to make the process easier, please let me know. You can find my contact information at: http://www.waco.tstc.edu/orientation/contact.php.

Also, if you can not make one of the main sessions, click here to see the make-up dates and times: http://www.waco.tstc.edu/orientation/makeup.php

I am very proud to work for TSTC, a college that cares so much about each of our students and their families. I hope that shows as you come to NSO.

If I haven’t seen you at NSO yet, I’ll see you there soon!

The Countdown is On!

One week, 7 days, 159 hours, 9,540 seconds…. Yep, that’s right; the countdown is on for the very first fall 2009 TSTC New Student Orientation Session to begin! Next Monday morning we will begin the first step to learning about campus and introducing you to student life at TSTC Waco.

One of the most exciting things to happen last week is that the NSO handbook was posted online. It looks amazing! Take a look,

All the last minute details are being completed over the next few days, including; directional signs for where you need to come first, tickets for lunch and making sure the student Orientation Leaders are ready to help you when you get here. When you arrive you will get a hard copy of the handbook, a t-shirt, a bag, pen, lunch ticket and pit pass with the days events. I believe all the details have been addressed and everything is ready for you to come learn all about TSTC! I look forward to see you at NSO!

TSTC NSO Preparations Underway

The very first TSTC New Student Orientation session for the fall semester is only 2 weeks away! The t-shirts, bags and pens have all been ordered and will arrive next week. The pit passes/schedules have been printed and the handbook is on the printer as we speak! Everything is coming together for the makings of a fantastic NSO for all incoming students!

Plenty of planning and organizing has gone into NSO, and a lot of people contributed their time and talents to give incoming students a great experience. I wanted to let you know about some of the key players involved with NSO.

Sarah-Jane Sanders, Coordinator of Publications, wrote text for the handbook, flyers, postcards, pit passes, signs and much, much more. She is dedicated to making sure the information is user friendly and efficient for all new students. Sarah-Jane will also help through different events during NSO.

The shirts and all printed materials have been designed by Stephanie Melendez. Based on the idea of the “Ultimate Ride,” she has come up with an awesome design campaign for NSO. Stephanie is an Advertising Design & Print student at TSTC and is involved in Student Ambassadors and Graphic Design Club. She also interns for the Marketing Department on campus. She is truly talented!

The TSTC Print Shop has also been instrumental in getting all the printed materials completed on time and looking like a million bucks!

I am also very excited that the Department of Student Life and the Success Coaches from Retention Program & Campus Outreach are taking on most of the Parent Orientation Session. They will present some very important information that will prepare parents for what to expect while their child is a student here. They will also let parents know of services that students may not know to ask about.

I hope you are as thrilled about NSO as I am! I know you will learn a lot about TSTC and meet some great people!

There are many different NSO sessions offered for the fall semester. Be sure you look at the orientation website to see which session best suits you.

Welcome to NSO!

Hello and Welcome to TSTC New Student Orientation (NSO)!!

I am very excited to get organize TSTC Waco’s NSO. I am a 2000 graduate of TSTC and I have worked here for almost 5 years. I’ve tried to pull from my experiences as a student here to make sure you know exactly where to find the help you need and who to talk to resolve your problems quickly while a student at TSTC. I remember that first few days of class on campus back in August 1998. It was overwhelming, but I met some of my very best friends during that week. Being a student at TSTC not only taught me how to be the best graphic design student I could be, but also taught me how to work with others and allowed me to grow as a person. I hope you will feel that from the start on your ultimate ride at TSTC!

Along with myself, there will be 12 Student Orientation Leaders helping with the sessions. They are ready to answer questions you may have about campus and life in Waco. They were just like you, new to our campus just a few semesters ago.

I am looking forward to meeting you at NSO! Please be sure to come and introduce yourself to me. I want to make sure you get all your questions answered during orientation.

See you soon!
